A dark house rests upon a hill of earth,
Overpowering and
rigid,
Dull and forbidding,
Creating a luminous
silhouette against the yellow, rising moon.
A ghost sits shadowed
in an old rocker, framed by an upstairs window,
Quiet and soft,
Translucent and
still,
Reminding its viewers
of a soul who is now lost among the living.
Black as midnight,
a cat pauses on the dusty, gravel path,
Arched and mischievous,
Yellow and alarmed,
Ready to pounce
upon any unwelcome intruder.
A goblin slowly
hobbles up the creaky front steps to the towering door,
Ghoulish and fearful,
Pale and timid,
Knocking loudly
with the tarnished brass knocker.
The shriek of "Trick-or-Treat"
echoes repeatedly through the thick air,
Excited and joyous,
Hopeful and Childish,
Shouted by a disguised
child amidst the fog of Halloween night.

It's that time again.
The night called
"HALLOWEEN"
A night when ghosts, goblins, ghouls and the demons of the dark roam free.
A feeling of foreboding and suspense fills the air.

Bats hover in the night
skies.
Witches fly their broomsticks high
Their cackles echoing through the quietness of the night.
Suddenly through the
eerie silence,
Screams of agony can
be heard in the distance,
Sending shivers up and down your spine.
White ghost-like entities
come into view as you pass a graveyard,
Floating like wisps of wind in the air.
You stare in fear..."blink"..hoping they will disappear.
Fear grips your soul
and fills you with dread,
As strange gruesome sounds
play havoc with your imagination.
As you walk along...Suddenly! you hear footsteps behind you.
Quickly you turn to see who follows you
NO ONE!!...NOBODY'S THERE!!
You quicken your pace
to escape.
Fear and foreboding follow you
You try to escape this presence, this feeling of fright you feel on this night.
But wait, there are lights
in the distance
You run as fast as your legs will carry you.
You approach a door
You fearfully lift your hand
Rap...Rap...Rap
The door slowly creaks
open
You hold your breath, your heart pounding
Your lips utter a phrase
"TRICK OR TREAT"
As you open the bag you
carry.
For a fleeting moment, you get a reprieve from all your fears.
The door closes.
You turn, and begin once
again another fearful journey into the night.
The night called...
"HALLOWEEN"
